Respondents rated the academic quality of the programs on a scale of 1 (marginal) to 5 (exceptional). They were asked to choose "I don't know" if they didn't have enough knowledge to evaluate a program. Only fully accredited and regulated programs are classified during the investigation period. Schools with the highest average scores appear in the rankings in descending order.




US News conducted surveys in six disciplines in the fall of 2018 for rankings calculated and published in 2019. Respondents were:

177 schools and public health programs accredited by the Board of Education for Public Health (response rate: 40%). This is a change from previous classifications, which included only public health schools. This change to include both schools and programs was based on a recommendation from the public health accreditation body, which also provided services in the United States. News with names of accredited schools and programs and names of all respondents in the public health survey.
75 health care management programs accredited by the Health Management Training Accreditation Commission (66%). The Accreditation Commission for Training in Health Care Management provided News with the names of all programs and the names of all respondents in the Health Care Management Survey.
170 medical assistant programs accredited by the Accreditation Review Board for Medical Assistants (39%).
96 rehabilitation and clinical rehabilitation counseling programs accredited by the Accreditation Council for Counseling and Related Studies (41%). US News worked with the Council for Accreditation of Orientation and Related Education Programs, which provided some of the names of respondents used in the survey.
28 veterinary schools accredited by the American Association of Veterinary Medicine (61%).
262 master's programs in social work approved by the Accreditation Commission of the Social Work Training Board (51%). The National Association of Deans and Directors of Social Work Schools provided News with the names of all respondents in the social work survey.
Market research firm Ipsos Public Affairs conducted surveys in eight disciplines in the fall of 2015 for the ranking calculated and published in 2016. Respondents were:

125 doctoral programs in pharmacy accredited by the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (response rate: 40%).
224 doctoral programs in clinical psychology approved by the American Psychological Association (21%).
164 Postgraduate Programs in Occupational Therapy accredited by the American Association of Occupational Therapy (41%).
74 audiology programs and 249 speech and language pathology programs accredited by the American Speech, Language and Hearing Association (58% and 33%, respectively).
217 physiotherapy programs accredited by the Accreditation Commission in Physiotherapy Education (39%).
39 graduate programs in midwifery nursing accredited by the Accreditation Commission for Midwifery Education (62%).
112 graduate programs in nursing anesthesia accredited by the Council for the Accreditation of Educational Programs in Nursing Anesthesia (54%).
Schools in the 2019 health ranking, based solely on the five-point peer evaluation score, are ranked numerically from highest to lowest according to their peer evaluation score. Schools listed in the health classifications published in 2016 with a score below 2.0 are listed as unpublished classifications or RNP. School officials classified by RNP can obtain their classification from the United States. News by sending an email to official@usnews.com.

If a program appears as unclassified, it means that United States News has not calculated a numerical range for this program. The program did not have the accreditation status necessary to be classified at the time the ranking was originally published. Programs marked as unclassified are listed in alphabetical order below, those with the lowest ranking.
